Character image phrase: 神速聖将 Shinsoku Seishou ('Godlike Speed, Blessed Commander')
Seiyuu: Paku Romi
Weapon: Katana (Iai techniques)
Element: Ice
Playable: No
Description: The supreme commander of the Uesugi army of Echigo, and a genius in combat feared as the 'God of War'. However, Kenshin shows no interest in seizing the country. Instead he postpones the confrontation with his rival Takeda Shingen and takes the position that Ashikaga Yoshiteru should rule the land of Hinomoto.
There will also be a cameo from the 'old soldier' from the Butai Sengoku Basara stage play series as a background soldier.
Ranks
This table shows the total number of points you need to accumulate for each evaluation rank, which affects the rewards you receive in battle. If you attain the highest rank you will receive every reward in the list when you finish a stage.
Rank | Points (Normal) | Points (Hard/Extreme) | Points (Basara) |
Sengoku Ruler | 15,000 | 20,000 | 25,000 |

Additional notes:
* This is a time-based requirement. The 'fish' and 'meat' camps will spoil if you take too long and a message will appear.
** Hideaki will request a random flavour when you reach the final area of this stage. The three options are salt (blue), miso (red) or soy (brown). Match his request (under the picture of the pot at the top of the screen) to the coloured word on the left of the bars, then kill the enemies carrying labels which match that colour to fill the correct flavour gauge.
*** According to Japanese fans, this requires defeating Shikanosuke within one minute, getting 200 kills and getting a 1,000 hit combo. JustMax did some experimentation and found the requirement was harder than that, though further information is needed to confirm it once and for all.
This post might help with any other questions you have about stage objectives.
Fugitive Bingo
One of the minigames in Sengoku Basara 4 involves tracking down and killing hidden fugitives (otazunemono). These resemble komusou; the baskets they wear on their heads make them easy to identify. There are separate bingo books for each difficulty level and completing each book unlocks a trophy. You can also earn minor rewards like weapon enhancement materials for completing each row/column/diagonal line of the books.
A table of which of the fugitives appear on each level is below. This is arranged in the same order as in the game; when you kill a fugitive you'll see that portrait marked on your book. There's a Play Book which helps locate them and a fugitive icon will appear on the stage selection interface when you receive information that one is hidden on a particular stage. Please note that the locations also apply to one-on-one matches; if you see a fugitive icon for the Investigation: Shikanosuke battle on Satsuma: Inner Castle, you can expect to to be fugitive Ho-1 for your bingo book.
My source for these locations is the Japanese fan site MasterWiki.
Note: Fellow fan Daviziu has put together a pictorial version of the table to make it easier to recognise the stages.

Enemy Formations
One new feature in Sengoku Basara 4 is that when a tactician is present the enemy soldiers can be directed to combine into jinkei gattai - combined military formations. They can also obey 'tactician orders' given by a new 'tactician' unit to attack together in special ways.
The different combinations all have official names.
- Juugyorin ('Gun Fish Scales'). Soldiers with rifles stack up in a pyramid formation.
- Yumigyorin ('Bow Fish Scales'): Enemies with bows form a pyramid and fire in unison.
- Tougyorin ('Gun Barrel Scales'): A pyramid of heavy cannons.
- Nadeshiko Gyorin ('Carnation Fish Scales'): An all-female version of the pyramid formation.
- Kingyorin ('Goldfish Scales'): A pyramid full of chests of gold.
- Ootatetate ('Huge Shield'). Twelve enemies with spears form a wall with their shields.
- Tatetate No Kamae ('Shield Stance'): A more compact arrangement than the Ootatetate using just four shields.
- Kusatatetate No Kamae ('Thatched Shield Stance'): The shield formation is camouflaged with a grassy pattern. It comes in normal-sized and 'Great' varieties.
- Kagami-Tatetate No Kamae ('Mirror-Shield Stance'): Soldiers holding mirrors line them up as though they're normal shields.
- Ookurumagakari ('Great Winding Wheel'). The soldiers climb on top of one another then link up and form a wheel.
- Tamagakari ('Winding Bullets'): Soldiers with bombs form a wheel and scatter bombs along their path.
- Atsugakari ('Winding Pressure'): Enemies with giant hammers crush their victims.
- Kurumagakari ('Winding Wheel'): A small three-man version, capable of sharp turns.
- Kakuyoku No Jin ('Crane Wing Formation'). Three soldiers link their spears together and spin to form a tornado.
- Enyoku No Jin ('Flame Wing Formation'): The same as the normal tornado, only on fire.
- Yariuma ('Spear Horse'): The enemies walk on their spears as though they're stilts.
- Daikikin ('Great Famine'): Another soldier sprinkles poison atop a soldier carrying a rice ball.
- Kagami Nobori ('Mirror Ascent'): The soldiers stack up to raise a mirror.
- Kin Nobori ('Muscle Ascent'): A formation with the soldiers standing on their teammates' shoulders to form a ladder.
- Tsuwamono Nobori ('Troop Ascent'): The same formation only with regular soldiers, not burly ones.
- Shinobikago ('Ninja Cage'): Ninja use hand seals to create a closed space, like a kekkai.
- Amago Juuyuushi ('Amago Ten Braves'): Soldiers surf through the desert on wooden planks.
- Kagyuu ('Fire Cow'): A soldier with cannons on both shoulders blasts out flames.
- Tamanori ('Bomb Ride'): A soldier rides on a huge rolling bomb.
- Noroi Numa ('Cursed Swamp'): A purple mist rises from the ground.
- Dual strengthening fans: A soldier wields two of the huge fans.
- Charge in ranks: The enemy soldiers charge together in rows.
- Surround the base: The enemies move around their base at high speed to keep it safe.
- Sack: Soldiers dog pile the player in a group.

DeleteYou're welcome! I'm glad you love the series so much :)
DeleteThere's no English-language DLC yet, but if we keep supporting the series and trying to let Capcom hear our voices, maybe one day the series will come back to the English-speaking world. Keep enjoying the game!
This is probably the best and more complete guide that I have ever see for a Sengoku Basara 4 game. Thanks a lot for all the work man!.

Thank you for leaving such a lovely message! I'm glad that you found it useful and hope you continue to be a die hard fan of this fantastic series :)
DeleteIt's amazing how there are fans who love Sengoku Basara in so many different countries!
Thank you for this guide! It really came in handy when playing the game! I have a question, does anyone know how to ambush Takeda Shingen for the stage bonus condition "Kawanakajima: Takeda Battle Formation?" Thank you again for this guide!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment! The ambush has to be before the mist has cleared, so rush to Shingen before the 'mist gauge' moves all the way to the other side.
DeleteYou are amazing! Very useful informations! And covering the specifics is really useful. Thanking you would not be enough for what you have provide for us.
ReplyDeleteWe really appreciate it.

ReplyDeleteAlthough I have a question about how to obtain a certain word in the creation story. A yellow word on the left bottom of the character before choosing. I noticed that it was a numbers befor it become yellow. But what should I do about it
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment! The word turns yellow when you earn enough 'Rank' points in a single playthrough to make your reign last forever. When you finish each story, you get given a score based on how well you performed and that number is that character's reign; the maximum is 'eternal'. If you keep playing through as every character you will eventually be able to turn them all yellow.
DeleteThank you so much!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you could tell me how I change my characters battle partner? I've just been stuck using the default partners each character has.
ReplyDeleteHello! You want to look for the third option on the main march screen: screenshot.
DeleteHope that helps :)

Deletei'm trying to clean some trophies but can end this [all stages trophie] 41/42 can't unlock dat one Mikawa: Komaki-Nagakute (Matabee Intrusion)
ReplyDeleteis there any requirements?
also the dont be touched its kind annoying
ドラマルートでは「又兵衛乱入」は出現しないので他キャラでやること
Deletewhat did this mean?
You won't encounter the Matabei Intrusion versions during Drama Routes because they're set. You need to do the Creation Route all the way through. As for forcing Mikawa's, maybe try targeting Naotora's stage? If I'm reading the official guide correctly, you should have a chance of triggering that variant if Tadakatsu doesn't show up in her stage.
Deletethank you, im still trying it, thats the only trophy that i need for platinum 41/42 till matabee wants to join in mikawa's
ReplyDeletefairly more hard than sumeragi
thank you for the guide. but I don't understand what "Pray while Waltz is in effect to launch fireworks on the stage" in xavi land grand openning means
ReplyDeleteHello! The 'Pray' and 'Waltz' are results you can get on the 'slot machine' which appears as you progress through the stage. If the first wheel lands on 'Waltz' (1/3 chance) then the second lands on 'Pray' (1/3 chance), there will be a firework display later on.
DeleteIn other words, it's down to random luck :(
thank you.At first I thought the objectives of Yoshiteru's stages at his red-and-black place are stupid, but Sorin's one is even more. could I use Yoshiteru to slow it down with the 'gold mode'? I play the sumeragi version. And can you tell me what the colour of those words are.

DeleteAnd is it Ok if I get the 'Pray' first
DeleteOne more thing. I like to play duel game (pressing-square-button-rapidly game) and it is hard to get into the game when I fight with Magoichi or Tsuruhime. So how could I play the game with them
DeleteSorry about the delayed reply! I think it's completely random but if you manage to find a way to select Sourin's results by slowing time that's great. Both of the first two reels should have blue text to trigger the reward.
DeleteIf you like triggering sword clashes, you probably want to create lots of 剣劇 (swordplay) inscriptions. That will give you a much higher chance to clash even with the characters you find harder to trigger.

DeleteThanks. Too bad that I couldn't slow it down like I hoped. So restart the stage is the only way to get the reward :(
DeleteAnd thanks for the trigger guide, too. I guess I am the only one who like triggering sword clashes, even when I against strong character like Yoshihiro. I think he is the hardest one to trigger against. He much harder than Yoshiteru or Tadakatsu

DeleteI have tried to get blue word in the first two slots, but you also need to get the yellow word in the third slot, too
DeleteHow do I get to Maria's bathroom in 'Kaga Onsen: Gathering Of Maidens'? I could do it at the first time I played this stage, but I couldn't do it several time after that. I have tried to control al bases before defeat Naotori
ReplyDeleteI think the condition is to beat Naotora before the 6 minute mark. Basically, you need to rush the stage. There are other things that can happen in the stage, like possibly skipping Magoichi, but that's the major one.
DeleteThis post might be useful for some of the weirder conditions :)

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteWould you happen to know if Sengoku Basara 4 is a sequel to 3 or a reboot of the series?
