The video has the most exciting narration possible thanks to the one and only Naoe Kanetsugu screaming over the top of the visuals. It introduces all of the characters and proudly explains that there are 89 stories for the 40 characters, meaning that 'every warrior is the main character'. The video also boasts that the game has the most content in the series yet. I loved the part where the narrator starts off describing each character but lets the descriptions become increasingly terse over time: "Hot-blooded Guy! Gambler! Demon King! Negative!? Overly-conspicuous Ninja! Iron Ball! Man-hater!? Shrine Maiden! Pirate! Heavy Weaponry Professional! Glutton! Splendid (I guess)! Recruiting Believers! Pervert! Festival Guy! Legendarily Silent! Chainsaw!? Like a Dragon's Right Eye! Deer!? Anyway, Explosions! End of Sengoku Era's Conqueror King! Fantasy Kunoichi!?"
(Note: Tenkai's on-screen text actually says "His true identity is..." but the narration is just the word "Pervert!" or "Freak!" so that's what I wrote. He also yells "Machinegun!" for Magoichi, "Gentleman!" for Yoshiaki, "Yakuza-ish" for Kojuurou, "Shady Practices!" for Sourin, "Banchou!" for Hideyoshi and "Explosion-lover!" for Hisahide. Many fans are laughing at the description of Masamune as the "Bilingual Dragon" too.)
Update: Lumi has suggested "Macho!" for what Kanetsugu screams about Hideyoshi and I think it could be a possibility. In the absence of official subtitles, please interpret it however you hear it!
The shot of the Tenka Medal reward shop shows that Mitsunari and Ieyasu have skill revisions costing 800 medals each, limit-breaking 'open' inscriptions costing 2,000 medals each, and personal inscriptions costing 5,000 medals each. Mitsunari's fourth costume costs 1,000 medals and is called the Team Western Misfortune Ver. (Ieyasu's fourth costume has no price as it has been bought already). Mitsunari's personal inscription is Kyouou ('Dark King') and Ieyasu's is Toushou ('Light of the East').
Update: The next Weekly Famitsu will reveal some more gameplay information
In Capcom's continuing plot to keep me away from my work today, the Weekly Famitsu preview has been posted and it confirms that the magazine will include four more news updates when it goes on sale on Thursday. These will include details of more of the new story routes (it looks as though Masamune, Yukimura, Ieyasu and Mitsunari are all getting anime routes according to the tiny picture, with Kanbee and Yoshiaki receiving drama routes).
Miyamoto Musashi is also returning to the series as an enemy, this time as part of the Battle Roulette system. When the wheel lands on 'Punishment From Heaven' (skull), one of the possible outcomes is an intrusion from Musashi.
In addition, there will be hands-on gameplay impressions from one of the magazine's writers. I'm going on a trip tomorrow but I'll be sure to post a summary as quickly as I can.
(Thank you to Lacters for sending the link!)
I think that this proves that the build they were demonstrating at events last month was incomplete, since plenty of people got hit by the skull in Battle Roulette and nobody saw Musashi. There could be all kinds of things still waiting to be discovered.
So at this point I'm pretty sure we can assume that every character will get a drama route, which is 80 stories. And we know that the four series leads, Deer Boy, Sakon, Katsuie and Motonari or Motochika have an anime route, which brings it up to 88. Which leaves one anime route left, which will probably go to either the other member of the Setouchi duo or Matabei/Naotora
ReplyDeleteWelp, there die my hopes of a Keiji anime route :/
And even if someone like Tadakatsu, Fuuma or Muneshige (or all three) miss out on a drama route, which is highly unlikely, that would still just fill the spaces for the three I mentioned ;-;
DeleteYes, those guesses sound plausible - though I guess there's nothing stopping characters appearing in drama routes which aren't their own (Naotora's frown in Shikanosuke's was pretty memorable). I hope that we get to see almost everyone animated again, even if just for a moment. The staff have to understand how desperate fans are to get more of that lovely I.G. animation!
DeleteMusashi! Wow, that's really unexpected, awesome news! I never imagined that they might bring back any of characters left behind in the PS2 era for Sumeragi and was generally expecting them to re-use existing assets from SB3/Utage/SB4.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Vibra that the numbers imply a normal + drama route for all playable characters with a sprinkling of anime routes on top. I'm really happy if that's the case, since a lot of my favourite characters only had one route last time. I'll definitely be looking forward to Kanbee having two routes!
Yes, I'm so happy for the Musashi fans! He's looking good in the new picture, too. Since they've already revealed most of the new moves and character stuff now, I hope we'll get a few more pleasant surprises of some kind before release day.
DeleteIt's good news for anyone waiting for the old characters too, since Musashi wasn't exactly the most popular of the missing veterans. I'm sure there are plans to return them all to the series eventually.
Musashi? All I’m seeing is yet another mysterious man with a half-hidden face ;)
DeleteIt IS a surprising appearance. Makes me also wonder if there will be more surprise appearances.
Kanetsugu needs to chill in that video. Although, lol at ”bilingual dragon", ”hentai” and...I thought he called Hideyoshi "macho"? :D
To be honest, Musashi being a roulette character makes me super hopeful for my prediction of Ujimasa, Nouhime, and Ranmaru being cutscene NPCs akin to Shingen in SB3. I doubt they'd tease them as roulette results or make them boss-only NPCs, especially without revealing them by now.
DeleteIf they want to go all out for the anniversary, with any luck Itsuki, Yoshimoto, and Honganji could show up somehow (Itsuki and Honganji in particular would work well for sudden roulette bosses- surprise peasant uprising and Honganji bribing both armies' soldiers to join him) and Xavi could definitely have a place in, say, perhaps Muneshige's drama ending, or whatever route that cutscene that scene of Sorin, Shika, and Pops using the party poppers is from. But that is probably a stretch.
Lumi: Hmm, it could be 'macho', couldn't it? And that word fits Hideyoshi just as well. I'm still inclined to go with 'banchou' since it plays on the real text when he appears but I'll add that suggestion to the post (it's also funny).
DeleteI don't dare imagine that they'll squeeze references to all of the missing characters into the game to make it into a true celebration of the series... but I'm definitely hoping that they do. I bet the Xavi angels who try to abduct the player when they fail the roulette is the best we can hope for as a Xavi reference, though. If it happens, I wonder whether anyone else will have a slight redesign, like Musashi with his fashionable mask?
I was paussing the video a lot to read the wacky descriptions that Naoe Kanetsugu gave at each character, and I was laughing without pause XD XD
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I saw that you translated 熱血野郎 and お祭り野郎 as "Hot Blooded Guy" and "Festival Guy" respectively (Yukimura and Keiji); I find it curious since in Spanish, those descriptions are translated respectively as "Imbécil Apasionado" and "Imbécil Parrandero". 野郎 could be translated as "Imbécil / Sujeto / Tipo / Bastardo (this last one is a little bit strong word)", but then in English is different? So when I read the descriptions and translated in my head, those two lines became hilarious XD XD
I also chuckled when I saw Yoshiteru eating something with chopsticks so peacefully XD XD
It's a shame not all the characters got a description (what could have been for Shingen, Yoshihiro, Oichi, Mitsunari, Ieyasu, Matsu and Toshiie, for example? "Punchy-Loudy Master", "Insanely big sword for a tiny grandpa", "Creepy negative", "Roaring emo", "Bonds otaku", "Tarzan's wife" and "Hungry dog", or something like that? XD XD ), but still, this video is so funny XD XD
So is hentai and that's what Tenkai was called. :P
DeleteThat's a good point! Since I'm British I'm quite restrained about using words like 'Bastardo' ;) but if I were using US English or a more expressive language like Spanish a rougher expression for 野郎 would definitely be perfectly appropriate. I usually go with context since it can be extremely rude in some situations, yet other times it can just a casual way a man refers to another. I imagine that Keiji, at least, is probably used to being described that way (lol).
Delete'Tarzan's wife' and 'Roaring emo' made me laugh :D
Oh, I didn't know that! Then, British people is as gentlemen as it is said n_n Well, in Spanish... It could be difficult to say what is rude and what is not, since a big lot of countries speak it, with many and diverse dialects. "Bastardo" is rude, but sometimes is not, depending on the context. And there are much worse words O__o I can't use them neither (in my country I'm considered a little bit above the usual level of politeness XD XD ).
DeleteGlad those two ones were funny enough to you XD XD
Anyway, until now, it's getting clearer that this game will be full of pure epicness with awesomeness as dessert, and with hilariousness as beverage XD XD XD ¡Viva Sengoku BASARA, lo diré una y otra vez! *O*
Say, at the end of the video theres an ominous text with a heartbeat sound in the background.
ReplyDeleteWhat is that about? Is it about the DLC Pre Order Weapons?
Yes, that part is weird; it says that 'he' has awakened and asks whether you'll survive, then calmly leads into the explanation about how you should preorder soon if you want to get the first press bonus weapon for Yoshiteru.
DeleteHmmm... I think he could be talking about Musashi. Didn't you say in other post that Musashi's intrusion could be very dangerous?
DeleteGod I love that Kanetsugu narrates it. But that scene with Kasuga at the end of the character section... Besides giving the IG anime a run for its money in how, er, h-hard to watch one of Kasuga's "Kenshin moments" is... how rude of him to call her delusional! >:O Though I guess it could be translated as fantasizing too, as you've said, but, still!! Rude! xD
ReplyDeleteJust... aahhh... The large number of cutscenes and screenshots we've seen that don't seem like they'd fit at the end of a story do make me wonder if they'll add more story-only mid battle scenes. IIRC, in 4, the only mid-battle cutscenes were events that happened in that stage even in free play and boss intros (or VS intros if two specific characters were battling each other). If I'm incorrect though, do correct me.
Kanetsugu needs to learn some respect :D
DeleteI love how hyper he sounds throughout the whole video. All trailers should be this exciting. It would be interesting to see more cutscenes interspersed throughout the routes; I know a lot of non-Japanese-speakers found it disappointing that they were mostly audio-only. I guess some could be from the 'intro cutscenes' when new stages spawn, since they used cuts from several of those in the Sengoku Basara 4 promotional clips (IIRC).
